A revered libation enjoyed for more than five centuries has suddenly become the hottest investment in the world.

An index of the top 101 collectible Scotch whisky bottles has increased in value by more than 200 percent since 2008. That exceeds the performance of every other traditional form of investment, including, stocks, bonds, gold—and even wine. (See 2016 Whisky Investment Report)

Demand for rare whiskies continues to ramp up. A total of 20,683 bottles of rare whisky was sold on the open market in the UK in just the first half of 215 – a whopping 35 percent increase from the first half of 2014.

Even with competition from emerging markets, the global market for Scotch whisky is flourishing. Scotch whisky generates more than £4.3 billion (US$6.2 billion) each year for the UK trade.

As with most products, scarcity, exclusivity and reputation determine the value of rare Scotch whisky.

Braeburn specializes in the rare bottles and limited editions that collectors crave.
