Littlemill Distillery Spotlight

The Littlemill Distillery was situated on the border between the Lowland and Highland regions in Scotland. It was officially part of the Lowlands but used both water and grain sourced from the Highland region, making the spirit a slight alteration from what people expect of a traditional Lowland whisky. Though it was demolished in 2005 after a fire, Littlemill Distillery will always be a huge part of history and innovation in the whisky industry. The distillery is known for its firsts: from the first license for distilling and selling whisky in Scotland to having the first licensed female distiller. Littlemill had innovative stills, which were copper with outer skins made from light aluminium. Both the shape and material of these hybrid stills allowed the distillery better control over distillation.
